    How to Compress Image to 100KB

    1. Check where the image already sits.     Why 100 KB Gives You More Room Than Tighter Caps

    A 100 KB limit gives twice the headroom of the 50 KB cap some job and licensing forms use, and five times the room of the strict 20 KB ceiling on government ID uploads, since 100 divided by 50 is 2 and 100 divided by 20 is 5. That extra room changes the method: at 20 KB, cropping first is not optional, because pixel count sets a hard floor under how far the quality slider can go. At 100 KB, if the source file is already close to web ready or document ready dimensions rather than a full camera frame, dropping the quality slider alone is usually enough by itself.

    The dividing line is the file size going in, not the subject of the photo. Quality 80, the default here, treats a 4.5 MB phone photo as visually lossless and brings it back around 900 KB, a real reduction but still nine times over a 100 KB target, since 900 divided by 100 is 9. An image already exported for the web or cropped to a small headshot or logo starts much closer to the target and usually clears it in a pass or two, not the several passes plus a resize a full camera original needs.

    A single signature update is a one-off, but a rebrand, a new headshot policy, or an office move that changes the address block usually means the same image change across everyone's signature at once.
